AI German Exam Preparation from A1 to C2

Deutschtrainer by Lingut helps you prepare for German language exams with AI-powered practice for speaking, writing, reading, listening, grammar and vocabulary. You work through complete papers in the real exam format and timing, and every attempt is graded against the official criteria with an explanation for each point you lost.

Practise by level

Each level page explains what the level means, what grammar and vocabulary it requires, what each exam part asks for, and how to prepare.

Practise by skill

Speaking and writing are graded by AI against the official band descriptors; reading and listening use complete papers with explanations; grammar and vocabulary practice is generated from the mistakes you actually make.

Exams covered

  • Goethe-Zertifikat A1 to C2
  • telc Deutsch A1 to C1, including the Beruf variants
  • ÖSD Zertifikat A1 to C2
  • TestDaF and DSH for university admission

How preparation works on Deutschtrainer

  • Choose your exam and level; the platform loads the real paper structure
  • Take complete, timed papers rather than isolated exercises
  • Speak to an AI examiner with natural voices for the speaking parts
  • Get scored feedback per official criterion, plus a higher-scoring model answer
  • Watch a readiness score per skill so you know when to book the real exam

What every German exam tests

Goethe, telc and ÖSD certificates all follow the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) and test the same four skills: reading (Lesen), listening (Hören), writing (Schreiben) and speaking (Sprechen). What differs is the task design, the timing and how the parts are weighted.

At A1 and A2 the tasks are short and practical: filling in forms, understanding announcements, introducing yourself. From B1 upwards you write emails and opinion texts, follow longer conversations and radio reports, and discuss or present a topic with a partner. At C1 and C2 the texts become academic or professional, and you are graded on precision, register and argument structure.

How long preparation takes

Learners who already have the level usually need four to eight weeks of focused exam practice: enough to learn every task type, work under the real time limits and fix the recurring mistakes that cost points. Learners still building the level need longer, and should combine general study with one full practice paper per week.

The most reliable signal is your results on complete, timed papers. When you pass every part with a margin of around ten percent across several attempts, you are ready to book.

Common reasons candidates fail

  • Running out of time in reading and listening because the tasks were never practised under exam timing
  • Writing texts that miss one of the required content points, which costs marks regardless of language quality
  • Speaking answers that are too short, or that do not react to the partner in the dialogue tasks
  • Repeating the same grammar mistakes (word order, case endings, verb position) without targeted correction

Frequently asked questions

How can I prepare for a German exam online?

Work through complete papers in the real format and timing, have every speaking and writing attempt graded against the official criteria, and review each wrong answer rather than repeating whole papers. Deutschtrainer provides all of this with AI grading.

Which German exam should I take?

Choose by what the authority, employer or university asking for the certificate accepts. Goethe, telc and ÖSD are equivalent at the same CEFR level; TestDaF and DSH are specifically for university admission.

Are Goethe, telc and ÖSD certificates equivalent?

At the same CEFR level they are generally accepted as equivalent for visas, residence permits, citizenship and most employers. Always check the exact requirement of the institution asking for the certificate before you book.

How many practice papers should I do before the exam?

Quality matters more than quantity. Most candidates do well with five to ten complete, timed papers, as long as every wrong answer is reviewed and every writing and speaking attempt gets detailed feedback.

Can AI grade a German exam?

AI can grade against the published band descriptors and explain each deduction, which is what makes daily practice possible. It does not replace the official certificate, which must be taken at a recognised test centre.
